Summer Fun in Anchorage

I only chose that title because I was hoping for some summer fun.  We have been plagued by bad weather, bad politics, and bad press.  However, throughout it all, we are surviving just fine, and I think I prefer rain to temperatures in the 90’s.

As I was saying, things are looking up – we’re flat on our backs. . . however, the great Anchorage Bucs baseball team beat the Glacier Pilots last night in the drizzle, just before the heavier rain, which would have shut down operations. . . so it’s not all bad.  However, today is the big Petroleum Club golf tournament with a field of over 400, and I’m afraid the players had to drag out their clothes for such days.  It’s not too unusual, for the even numbered years.  I’m just kidding.  One of the members of the club just wrote a rather popular ‘historical novel’ called Saylor’s Triangle, which is set in Anchorage, Hawaii, and  Seattle.  It’s really well-written and a good way to spend your retirement, which is the popular thing these days.
Today’s paper also announced that the biggest fish caught in the Seward Fish Derby didn’t get the big money, because the fisher didn’t buy the $10 ticket.
But the big downer is a personal sadness, as the son of my friend was killed in a car accident on the Seward Highway just hours ago.   It seems like this stuff just happens in bunches.  So I hope tomorrow will be better.
Yes, I remember this is a page written for travelers to come and visit Alaska, and I guess I’m not going to entice anyone with all the bad news, but check back and things will be better.  It’s the only way to go.
